The Zeiss Major Planetarium on Prenzlauer Allee uses full-dome projection and 3D sound to take students on a trip through the universe. There are special shows for school classes on planets, stars and other science topics, explained in a way students can follow. Shows last about an hour.

This disco night at the MATRIX club is organised just for school classes. Students get to dance in a real Berlin club, and coloured wristbands show who is allowed to drink what, if anything. Teachers can relax in a separate lounge and still keep an eye on things. The evening lasts about four hours.

Mauerpark lies on the former border strip between Prenzlauer Berg and Wedding. Students can see a remaining section of the Wall, watch graffiti artists at work on the legal wall and, on Sundays, browse the flea market and listen to the open-air karaoke. It's a good place for lunch or free time, and you can stay as long as you like.

Hohenschönhausen was the Stasi's main remand prison. Former prisoners and historians lead school groups through the cells and interrogation rooms and explain how the GDR persecuted political opponents. It's one of the most visited school activities in Berlin and leaves a strong impression. Tours take about two hours.

The Topography of Terror stands on the site of the former SS and Gestapo headquarters near Potsdamer Platz. Its free exhibition shows how the Nazi regime organised persecution and murder across Europe. Guided tours for school classes help students understand how the system worked. A visit takes 1 to 1.5 hours; it's best for older students.
