Dark Matter is a series of seven rooms filled with light, sound and movement. Each room has its own atmosphere, and students walk through them at their own pace. It's a good way to show how art and technology can work together, and it makes for great photos. It's in a former factory near S Rummelsburg, and the visit takes about an hour.

The Deutschlandmuseum takes visitors through 2,000 years of German history in life-size rooms with sound, light and even smells. Students walk from the Romans and the Middle Ages through the Empire and the Nazi era to the GDR and reunification. Guided tours for schools are matched to curriculum topics. A visit takes 1.5 to 2 hours.

At the Illuseum on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, students walk through a spinning vortex tunnel, watch classmates shrink and grow in an Ames room and seem to stand on the ceiling in an upside-down room. It's a playful way to show how easily our brain can be tricked. Schools can add a workshop on origami, tape art or anamorphic drawing. A visit with workshop takes about two hours.

The Computerspielemuseum on Karl-Marx-Allee has more than 300 exhibits, from early consoles and arcade machines to games you can still play. Students learn how video games developed and why they matter culturally, and most of them will want to try everything. A visit takes 1.5 to 2 hours.

The Studio of Wonders in the Mall of Berlin has more than 30 colourful photo sets. Students take group photos and selfies and see how perspective and visual tricks change a picture. It's light-hearted fun rather than a learning activity. The studio is on the second floor of the mall, and a visit takes about 1.5 hours.
